I want to encourage other military veterans and their families to utilize the Family Care Center. I have been a patient there since 2013. For years prior to that I had suffered from anxiety and depressions issues related to the stressors of military life. I contemplated suicide often. A non-specific achy pain griped my entire body. I dreaded social events and isolated myself as much as possible. I had no energy or interest in anything.
Through a coordinated effort of all the therapies available at the Family Care Center, I am off of most all of my medications, have many pain free days, am happy, and in control of my life. I am now participating in many social activities and eager to try new activities. My family and friends have noticed a positive change in my perspective on life and ability to manage previously anxiety provoking situations. My physical appearance, and core personality have not changed. I have learned the vital tools necessary to cope through Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), one to one sessions with my councilor and nurse practitioner. I also participated in EMDR therapy with my therapist to overcome traumatic past episodes in my childhood that were interfering with present day life. Trans Mental Stimulation therapy (TMS) was pivotal in decreasing my physiological requirement on medications.
If you choose to participate in these life changing therapies, you must actively work to succeed. Give 100% effort to making a change. Just reading the material is not sufficient. Sincerely integrate the tools into daily life. Positive thinking is just not a cliché, but a way to be happier. Release adverse events quickly. Master new skills or activities that you choose to do.
Thank you to all the professionals at the Family Care Center for your unwavering support. I plan to continue to work with you to maintain my improved mental well-being. Your authenticity is amazing.
