About Dr. Hurt

I was born and raised in Charlottesville, VA. I attended Haverford College and studied French Literature. Spent my Junior Year in Paris. After college, I started a computer software store; before attending Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine on an HPSP scholarship. I did a Pediatrics Internship at Tripler Army Medical Center; then an adult Psychiatry Residency and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. I was stationed in Seoul, Korea for two years, then was on the teaching staff at Tripler Army Medical Center for 9 years, working on the adult and child and adolescent training staff. I was then stationed in Landstuhl Germany for 4 years where I started and ran the Deployed Warrior Behavioral Health Service, who took care of all Behavioral Health patients air evacuated from the combat theater. I then worked in Vicenza, Italy for 4 years at the clinic and as the embedded behavioral health psychiatrist, before retiring from active duty in 2015 (as a COL). I then returned with my Irish wife (Caitriona) and my two children (Lily and Peyton) to Charlottesville, where we currently live. I worked at the Veteran’s Administration clinic for 5 years before transitioning back to work remotely at Madigan Army Medical Center for a year before starting at FCC. I have many interests, particularly reading, swimming and running. Psychiatry is my calling. I am obsessed with it and love taking care of patients.

I am American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) certified in Adult and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
