I grew up in Monument, CO and attended college and graduate school in Colorado Springs. I have been married to my husband for three years, we have a 10 month old son and three fur babies! I love to travel, play with my son and animals, cook new foods, read, and watch tv. My life philosophy is we do our best with what we have at the time, and when we know more we can do more. I also believe that to get different results, we must try different things.
I have my Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I have additional training in Play Therapy and am close to meeting requirements to become a Registered Play Therapist. I have worked with children in many roles since I was a teenager, so I knew I wanted to continue helping children and families in my career. I am also trained in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and utilize this modality when there are relationship concerns between parent and child or behavioral concerns for the child. I believe that including the parent in therapy is the quickest way to progress and necessary for lasting change. I also have experience working with children and adults who have experienced Domestic Violence and have a great understanding of the many impacts that has on a person.
Why work with Sarah?
I come from a very Client-Centered approach and work to meet clients where they are at. You are the expert of your child. My role is to support the child, offer new skills or strategies, assist in trauma and emotions processing, help with regulation skills, and improve the family dynamics – none of which is possible without the support/involvement of the parents.
